I am responsible for Vision, hearing, height, weight, scoliosis screening, and immunizations.
I will be asking you for immunizations from time to time when they are required for your child. If you receive an immunization from your Dr. or the Health Dept. please send a copy of the immunization to me. I appreciate it greatly. There are several immunizations that will be required in the 2009-2010 school year that have only been recommended. Hepatitis A (2 shots) will be required for Kindergarten and 2 chickenpox shots and 2 measles, mumps, and rubella. Meningococcal will be required for students starting 7th grade. Also, 7th grade students will be required to have a Tdap (diphtheria-tetanus with pertussis) if they have not had a Tetanus booster in the last 5 years. They will also have to have meningococcal shot if they have not had one previously. These can all be obtained at your Dr.'s office, the Abilene Taylor Co. Health Department, or at the Patty Hanks CareVan that gives immunizations at the Mall of Abilene the 1st Monday of each month free of charge.
From time to time I will also call on you to help with checking your children for headlice. If we have an outbreak I will ask for your help in stopping it. I will be checking the classes from time to time just as a precaution.
I will also be going into the classroom to talk to the children about assorted health topics (teethbrushing, hygiene, handwashing, safety, etc.) If you have anything you wish for me to discuss, please let me know and I will try to cover it.
The first week of school during Health Topics we will discuss handwashing. |
